Responsibilities of this year-round position include encouraging children to develop their sense of self in a caring and rhythmic environment designed to nurture and support their continued unfolding. Children are actively engaged in all aspects of their daily routine and care by respectful caregivers. A great deal of time is spent outdoors, serving to strengthen children’s growing bodies. Days include creative free play inside and out, wholesome organic foods, storytelling, nursery rhymes, and singing! Relationship based care is at the root of our philosophy and creating and building these relationships, with both children and families, is vital to our work together. It is critical that you be passionate about natural, play based learning, interested in learning opportunities, open to personal reflection, and experienced in responsive care giving. Priority will be given to those with some experience or interest in the philosophies of LifeWays, Waldorf, and/or RIE. Areas of Responsibility:
· Caring for up to 4 infants
· Communication with parents to create and maintain a rhythm of sleeping and eating that meets the individual needs of each infant
· Diapering/toileting children
· Clean up classroom after activities
· Communication with parents regarding child’s daily activities
· Attend Welcome Picnic and Bridge Crossing Ceremony with parents and children
· Attend monthly staff meetings
Background Education:
· High School Diploma; related college-level coursework preferred
· LifeWays and/or RIE certification preferred. A willingness to familiarize yourself with these philosophies will also be considered
· Related work with children, preferably in a group setting
Certifications:
·First Aid/CPR certification
Professional Development/Continuing Education Requirements:
· Professional Development: All caregivers will determine professional goals and professional development plans each year. It is recommended that all caregivers of Little Farm School be on a gradual path toward attaining a certification in LifeWays.
· Conferences: Caregivers are encouraged to attend the annual WECAN conference in February
· Caregivers should read and be familiar with the Rules for Licensing of Day Cares in the State of Maine (available online and in our files)
